Yeah...I appologize muchly for not updating this blog. For a long time I've been wondering what I should post on, but for now, here's a short post just to get the ball rolling.
I've been attending a church in Gilbert, AZ called East Valley Bible Church and the series that has been taught there is called So You Really Want A King?. The study is going through the books of I and II Samuel in the old testament. Most people are familiar with at least one of the stories found in the books about David and Goliath. (Cool, yes?)
In fact, David is one of the principal characters in these two books. The thing is most people, even people who are regular attenders of churches, are only familiar with two, maybe at most three stories from these two books, so they get an unbalanced and incomplete picture of this man. And because they don't get the whole story, they are not able to see completely the work that God did with him.
EVBC is doing this series differently than any other church that I have attended because the pastors are going through both books chapter by chapter, so we get to see the whole story as it develops, see how David became "a man after God's own heart" and what caused Saul's reign to come to an end.
This approach makes the whole story so much more powerful, and we are able to get a far more complete picture of these men and the way God moved in their lives. It's...awesome to see.
If anyone would like for me to go through with my thoughts on the sermons and such, let me know and I'd be happy to oblige. If you would like to actually see the sermons yourself, go to evbc.org and poke around the media and resources area. The title of the series is So You Really Want A King?.
